Pumicestone Passage a hidden gem for Stand Up Paddle Boarding – steeped in history, rich in wildlife and natural beauty, and one of the world’s most ecologically important waterways – is the body of water which separates Bribie Island from the mainland.

Stretching for 35kms from the southern end of the Caloundra bar to Deception Bay this marine park is a narrow, shallow estuary, encompassing a meandering system of channels, sand banks and islands.

A little known spot but slowly becoming one of Sunshine Coast's best places to SUP Pumicestone Passage is certainly a waterway to explore with your Stand Up Paddle Board.

Eighty percent of the Passage is under two metres deep and dugongs frequent its waters seasonally to feed on the seagrass on the bottom of the channels in the passage.

You may also catch glimpses of dolphins and turtles who also make the Passage home and is a bird-watcher's paradise, recognised as one of the most important bird habitats on the east coast of Australia.

The beautiful Glasshouse Mountains are your backdrop in the distance as you explore the passage.

Habitats within and adjoining the passage include mangroves and saltmarshes, sand flats and mud flats, coastal dunes and seagrass meadows.

Pumicestone Passage is a spectacular waterway that offers a sheltered recreational area perfect for Stand Up Paddle Boarding and has many entry points to launch your SUP from.

This will be a perfect place to take the kids too for a SUP and an explore.
